Surge in Demand for High-End Computing and Memory Chips Drives 103.9% Profit Growth in Electronics Industry

Yu Weining, Chief Statistician of the Industrial Department of the National Bureau of Statistics, interpreted the profit data of industrial enterprises from January to May 2026.

Yu Weining stated that the supporting role of the electronics industry is significant. From January to May, profits of equipment manufacturing enterprises above designated size increased by 14.1% year-on-year, driving the total profit growth of industrial enterprises above designated size by 5.2 percentage points.

From an industry perspective, the global AI technology transformation has triggered a surge in demand for high-end computing chips and memory chips, driving rapid profit growth in the electronics industry. In the first five months, profits in the electronics industry increased by 103.9%, contributing 43.1% to the total profit growth of industrial enterprises above designated size, making it a vital pillar for the relatively fast profit growth of these enterprises.
